Electrelane

Is a band. Formed in 1998, eventually comprising guitarist Mia Clarke, bassist Rachel Dalley, drummer Emma Gaze, and keyboardist/guitarist Verity Susman. Sharing an equal amount of fondness for Krautrock, vintage equipment like the Farfisa organ, and modern production techniques, the band made their recorded debut in January 2000 with the Film Music single on In Denial. Following another single for Fierce Panda, the group set up the Sony-supported Let's Rock! label, issuing a pair of singles (Gabriel and Blue Straggler) prior to the April 2001 release of Rock It to the Moon, the band's first full-length. Active and vocal proponents of female involvement in music, the band became part of the Ladyfest concerts that took place in Glasgow a few months later. For the band's second album, 2004's The Power Out, Electrelane moved to Too Pure and added vocals and more pop structure to their sound. Dalley left the band late in 2004 and was replaced by Ros Murray. Axes, Electrelane's denser, more experimental third full-length, arrived the following spring. After extensive touring in support of Axes, the band convened in Berlin in summer 2006 to write their fourth album, No Shouts No Calls, which they recorded that fall; the album, which fell closer to The Power Out's pop sound, was released in spring 2007. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

So the time has passed quickly. I'm now living in Leucadia, said to be the last "hippie" town, yet I haven't seen many hippies. Anyway, I wanted to post the rest of the Chama photos.

A friend we found and left for later to come.

Chris is gonna be pissed about this one. He and Sasha on their way back from a dip in the river. It was too cold for my liking.

Game time in the evening. Life without television is so much more simple.

OK, I have to go renew my Flick PRO account....there's nothing pro about it, except you can put alot more photos up .....plus I just found Flight of the Conchords in Spanish on HBO, it's amazing.

Chama Continued and my New Best Friend

OMG!!! This is so fucking cute.

Anyway, I wanted to actually get the the Chama Barton Ranch photos. So here we go.

So it begins raining right as we approach the Chama city limits. The ranch lies somehwhere between the end of the city and the Colorado border. So, we are looking for a fence??? If we reach CO, we've gone too far. So we drive and look and drive and look and.....CO, he we are. Turn around and just as we have the rain begins to clear and Chris and Bryan are approaching the gate we somehow missed, oh yeah we missed it because it's brown rusted iron with a combination lock on it.

So the rain has cleared, but it's muddy and wet. It's cool though, and refreshing. I felt like I was in a water bottle. So, we decide to let the dirt, now mud, road dry up and run into town and get some groceries. When we get back, we go "froading" to get to the ranch. and doing so in my mom's brand new Suzuki hatchback thingy that's like 2 inches from the ground. How we didn;t tear that car apart, I still don't know. Anyway. here are some pics...we got there and Bryan suggested we go on a small hike, a small hike turned into a goddamn 2 hour journey through wet forest. Spotting some elk, some dead elk, and some serious bones!

Aspens, they surrounded the ranch. They were also pretty easy to knock over once they were dead.

Ok, we'll start the next round with us getting back to the ranch and getting d-runk, which included a dance-off. I think Peter won, of course, dancing to Peter Gabriel.

A Peaceful Piece of Land - New Mexico

I have recently returned from my Southwest rummage through the desert and high into the mountains of the Colorado border. Every mile we climbed higher and higher riding on side of the Rockies until we reached Chama, NM. A place that exists only to be forgotten.

Starting in my hometown of El Paso, Texas, I gave the Burlington Brothers a mini-tour of "Smelter Town," a small border community at the edge of Texas creeping right up to New Mexico and Mexico. Hidden behind a business park and the I-10, sits the old Smelter Town Graveyard - said to house the graves of many of the now defunct and controversial Asarco Coal Production Factory. Once many of the graves did not even carry a white cross as they do now, but merely a pile of rocks, unknown to their family and the rest of the world.

Then after our sweaty hike through graves, sand and huge fire ants we needed a drink and some of the best Chile con Queso that I've ever had at the infamous Rosa's Cantina, known for it's mention in the Marty Robbins song "El Paso," where he fell in love with a Mexican girl. Here I fell in love with Rosa. Now under new ownership, the feel is the same, but now not as scary.

Sipping on Micheladas, a beer and lime drink perfect for the hot weather. On the walls are all the famous people that have visited Rosa's, including the Selena and her team, including her killer.....

Then to the road, to head North to the Chama, NM. What was expected, we had no idea. As we traveled the sand and dirt and red rocks became green grass and pine trees.

The Feel of a Grey Garden

So I watched the new movie Grey Gardens based on the Edie Beales mother and daughter of The Hamptons as I sifted through amazing vintage clothes for my besties at Spanish Moss Vintage. It was fitting, as the Beales had an amazing sense of quirky style as they sat in their reclusive home they still had to put on their lipstick.

So the vintage in my closet is dwindling, so I think it's time for a trip to the Hamptons.

Lovin' on Pamela Love

So, I am trying to get some New York jewelry designer P. Love into the store I work at in San Diego, Pigment.....check it out,

Her stuff is awesome. She creates pieces that are edgy, youthful and still classic pieces of jewelry. I have never been much of an extravagant jewelry person, but when you see the right piece...you can just feel it surge inside you. I am hoping to go out to Brooklyn in September and meet up with her reps, so I am crossing my fingers...plus I wouldn't mind taking a trip to Brooklyn.

Pamela Love worked with Zac Posen to create punk Victorian bliss that will be available this Fall.

She has also worked with Frank Tell for some pieces that are combo jewelry and clothing.

Here's the back of the metal embroidered blazer jacket that fits the dreams of all heavy metal fashion lovers.

Pamela also teamed up with Yigal Azrouel for this Fall/Winter collection. Love providing the leather cuffs and claw earrings to match Azrouel's rock and roll and alomst gothic collection for Winter.

I love this look of edge and relaxed hang out attire. Everything feels soft, yet has a bite to it.

So anyway....hopefully we will have some of Love's stuff in San Diego soon enough.

Thinking in Colors and Lines

OMG!!!! Jim Lambie is on my mind all the time. The ultimate crush, a faceless one. So I saw some of his work, not yet in person, in a class last year and ever since Ive been crushin.

This is what started it all. The lines, so slim and sleek and confident.

and then

lines become blotches of heaven, thrown so barbicarically against the gallery white.

Then he leads on touches of the animalistic. The paint spatter reflects the natural processes...hmm.

His newest projects, of many, is his Flower/Painting photos. From Stevie Nicks to Bob Dylan, Lambie has reflowered everyone.

Okay, I've finally done it. I'm blogging........do I have more to share than the next. Highly doubt it, but it's like a journal right??? So I'm flickr obsessed and have noticed some amazing photographers out there. One of my favorites it Elizabeth Weinberg from Brooklyn, she's super hot (I read) and very mysterious. You may recognize some of her photos like on the new Cat Power book by Elizabeth Goodman, "A Good Woman."
